The settings that actually save your battery
Every so often someone asks why one game eats their battery in half an hour while another runs all afternoon. Usually the answer is buried in a settings menu nobody opens. So let's open a few.
The biggest lever is frame rate. If a game offers 60 or 120 fps, dropping to 30 often halves the drain and, for most genres, you won't feel it. Racing and action games are the exception — there the smoothness matters — but puzzle and sim games look identical at 30.
Next is visual effects: shadows, reflections, particle density. These push your GPU hard, and turning them down is where I've seen the biggest gains. Many games label this as a simple low/medium/high toggle.
Don't forget the screen itself. Dropping brightness a notch and letting the phone use a darker theme where available helps as much as any in-game setting. And close background games — mobile devices don't always fully suspend them.
My routine now: install a game, play ten minutes on default, then open settings and knock effects down a level. Nine times out of ten it still looks great and lasts twice as long.
